Gregor makes his mark in Scotland

Our Edinburgh office has welcomed another member to its growing team. Introducing Gregor Cruikshank who joins as a divisional manager.

Tell us a bit about your previous career history?

I have worked in recruitment for the past seven years after starting my career in the retail and property industries. The last 2.5 years have been spent with STAR Recruitment as a recruitment manager specialising in white collar construction and property sales positions.

What does your new role at ORB involve?

I am the divisional manager helping to head up our Scottish office and driving the permanent side of the business.

What are you enjoying about working at ORB?

I really enjoy the unique approach ORB have taken to recruiting. Most recruiters are very secretive about everything they do, so much so, it can make them very unapproachable and untrustworthy. ORB take the dark art out of recruiting with an honest approach and share information freely which makes the job so much easier and more enjoyable.

What makes the company stand out from the crowd?

Our unique approach and personalities. It’s not about making as much money as we can, but building healthy relationships with our clients that allow us to evolve with their needs.

It must be exciting to be part of ORB’s venture into Scotland?

Very much so. The majority of my recruitment experience has been in the Scottish market, so for me, it’s allowed me to utilise my experience and help expand into new industries. After nearly two years of covid restrictions, I hope this will be the year that we can all get back to normal.

What do you enjoy most about working in recruitment?

The variety! Every day can be different. Different people and jobs. What we do can make a difference to individuals and that’s why the biggest part of my job is getting to know everyone that I deal with. There is nothing better than knowing you’ve found someone their perfect position that will allow them to progress their career and also improve their home lifestyle.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I enjoy watching football (no longer able to play), rugby, F1, training at the gym and spending time with my partner and our three children. My partner runs her own events company so it’s always a hectic household with plenty to keep me busy!

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?

I have broken 15 bones! This is why I no longer play football. Thankfully it’s been a number of years since I last broke anything.

My move to ORB came from my frustration with the recruitment industry as a whole and the “typical recruitment style”. Most recruitment companies work in a very similar way, they keep everything close to their chest and make it difficult for candidates and clients to trust what they do. This is why I found it so refreshing when I first met with Alan and Stewart and they explained their more open way of recruiting. I also used to work with Gillian so knew that what I was being told was true. I have already spoken to and met a number of clients who work with ORB and they all have nothing but good things to say about the business and the way they conduct business.
